WNRCASN Webinar Series

**Artificial Intelligence in Nursing Education and Research: A Four-Part Webinar Series** hosted by the [Western and Northwestern Region Canadian Association of Schools of Nursing](https://wnrcasn.ca), beginning September 18, 2026. The webinars will be led by UBC Nursing faculty [Dr. Nassim Adhami](https://nursing.ubc.ca/our-people/nassim-adhami).

**Participation and Registration:**

While the four webinars are designed to build on one another and together provide a progressive exploration of AI in nursing education and research, each session can also be attended independently. Participants are welcome to attend one, several, or all four webinars based on their interests and learning needs.

Separate registration is required for each webinar session. Click the title for more information.

### Sept 18: Understanding the AI Landscape

***Webinar #1***

The first webinar will establish a shared foundation for understanding AI. Participants will explore what AI is, how it has evolved over time, and the different forms of AI that are increasingly influencing nursing education and research.

Topics will include the history and evolution of AI, and key terminology and types of AI. The session will also consider the broader social and professional context in which these technologies are developing.

**When:** September 18th, 2026, 12:00 to 1:30 PM PST

**Where:** Via Zoom; registration is required

### Nov 13: Teaching and Learning in an AI-Enabled World

***Webinar #2***

AI is increasingly being incorporated into nursing education by both educators and students. But how is it being used, and what do we currently know about its impact on teaching and learning?

This webinar will provide an overview of the emerging literature on the uptake of AI in nursing education. We will explore how nurse educators are using AI to support curriculum development, teaching, assessment, feedback, simulation, and other educational activities, as well as how nursing students are using AI to support their learning.

The session will then examine potential benefits and challenges associated with AI in nursing education, including opportunities to enhance accessibility, personalization, feedback, and efficiency, alongside concerns related to academic integrity, bias, privacy, equity, accountability and the development of clinical reasoning and professional judgement.

**When:** November 13th, 2026, 12:00 to 1:30 PM PST

**Where:** Via Zoom; registration is required

### Nov 20: AI Across the Research Process - Opportunities, Risks, and Responsibilities

***Webinar #3***

AI is also transforming the research landscape. Researchers are increasingly encountering AI across multiple stages of the research process, from identifying literature and developing research questions to data analysis and knowledge translation.

This webinar will provide an overview of the emerging literature on the use of AI in educational and health research and examine how researchers are currently incorporating AI into their work.

Participants will consider potential applications of AI across the research process as well as important questions related to methodological rigour, data governance, bias, confidentiality, and accountability. The session will pay particular attention to the ethical implications of using AI in research and to the evolving responsibilities of researchers, supervisors, and reviewers.

**When:** November 20th, 2026, 12:00 to 1:30 PM PST

**Where:** Via Zoom; registration is required

### Feb 12: A Deliberative Dialogue on AI and the Future of Nursing Education and Research

***Webinar #4***

The final webinar will move beyond describing the current landscape to asking what nursing should do next.

Using a deliberative dialogue approach, participants will be invited to reflect on the opportunities, tensions, and ethical questions explored throughout the series and to consider how nurse educators, researchers, and the broader profession might respond to the continued development of artificial intelligence. The dialogue will invite participants to consider what should remain distinctly human within nursing education and scholarship, and how the profession can help shape, rather than simply react to, the future of AI.

**When:** February 12th, 2027, 12:00 to 1:30 PM PST

**Where:** Via Zoom; registration is required

Dr. Nassim Adhami

### Webinar Facilitator

The webinar series will be facilitated by [Dr. Nassim Adhami,](/our-people/nassim-adhami "Nassim Adhami") Assistant Professor of Teaching at the University of British Columbia School of Nursing. Dr. Adhami is a PhD-prepared nurse educator whose teaching and educational scholarship focus on supporting meaningful and inclusive learning within nursing education.

Her program of educational research explores the theory-to-practice bridge in nursing education, Universal Design for Learning (DUL) and the use of AI in nursing education. An emerging area of her scholarship examines the intersections of nursing practice, UDL, and AI, with particular attention to how evolving technologies can be thoughtfully and responsibly integrated into nursing education while supporting learning, accessibility, clinical reasoning, and the preparation of nurses for contemporary practice.
