![Student works with technology in sim lab](/sites/default/files/inline-images/placements-2.jpg)The UBC Bachelors of Science in Nursing program will provide you with a combination of theoretical courses and opportunities to apply and consolidate your skills in hospital and community-based healthcare settings.

As a UBC nursing student, you will be exposed to a variety of clinical learning opportunities under the supervision of highly qualified instructors in group placements and a RN preceptor(s) in the consolidated final practicum.

### Professional Practice - Term 1





Term 1 students complete NURS 360 - Nursing Practice with Adults/Older Adults & their Families, a 13-week professional practice course that provides a foundation for clinical skills development.





### Professional Practice - Term 2, 3 & 4





**Term 2 (Winter)**  
  
Students take **two professional practice courses at the same time** over 13 weeks. Students are divided into two groups:  
  
**Set A**  
  
NURS 365 – Nursing Practice with Childbearing Individuals and Families  
NURS 366 – Nursing Practice with Infants, Children, Youth & their Families  
  
**OR Set B**  
  
NURS 362 – Nursing Practice in Primary Health Care Context  
NURS 363 – Nursing Practice with People Living with Mental Health Challenges  
  
Students who complete **Set A in Term 2** will complete **Set B in Term 4.**  
Students who complete **Set B in Term 2** will complete **Set A in Term 4.**  
  
**Term 3 (Spring/Summer)**  
  
Students complete one 11-week professional practice course:  
  
NURS 361 – Nursing Practice with Adults/Older Adults Experiencing Acute Health Challenges  
  
**Term 4 (Fall)**  
  
Students complete the remaining two 13-week professional practice courses concurrently:  
  
**If students completed Set A in Term 2, they will complete Set B:**  
  
NURS 362 – Nursing Practice in Primary Health Care Context  
NURS 363 – Nursing Practice with People Living with Mental Health Challenges  
  
**If students completed Set B in Term 2, they will complete Set A:**  
  
NURS 365 – Nursing Practice with Childbearing Individuals and Families  
NURS 366 – Nursing Practice with Infants, Children, Youth & their Families





### Professional Practice - Term 5





In Term 5 (Winter) students complete NURS 427 - Final Consolidated Practicum. Students are assigned to work closely with a clinical preceptor while completing 312 hours of consolidated practice.
